Fill the frame. Move closer so legs, antennae, markings, or droppings are visible — not a tiny speck in a room shot.
Light and focus. Steady the phone, tap to focus, and avoid harsh flash glare on shiny surfaces.
One subject. One pest or one sign (e.g. droppings next to a ruler or coin for scale) beats a cluttered scene.
Second angle (optional). If it is safe, a top-down and a side view in separate shots help disambiguate look-alike insects.
Swarmers on a window sill. Include body waist and wing tips in frame — termite alates and flying ants are easy to confuse in poor light.
Honest limits. This tool assists routing and education; a site visit confirms species and treatment.
